Visit a muscle car or racing museum on your Florida vacation

If you’re heading to the Daytona International Speedway, you’ll want to check out their race car museum, but there are museums for car enthusiasts on Florida’s other coast as well.

Don Garlits Museum of Drag Racing, Ocala

All things drag racing are at Garlits Museum, from the International Drag Racing Hall of Fame to the museum itself, dedicated to the sport. Created by Don Garlit, the father of drag racing, the museum project has grown over 34 years and as you walk down rows and rows filled with vintage cars from Swamp Rat dragsters to hot rods, the attention to detail is evident.

Living Legends of Auto Racing Museum, Daytona

From memorabilia and photographs to antique race cars, this vintage car museum gives you a flavor of the local history and culture, harkening right to the turn of the 20th century, when visitors to John D. Rockefeller’s Ormond Beach winter home sped their cars on the beach. Given that Daytona Beach still allows cars to drive on an 11-mile stretch of its beach, it’s no wonder that this museum was started in 1993 to bring awareness to those who started beach racing and stock car racing.

  • Where: 2400 S. Ridgewood Ave, Daytona, FL
