Meet the “real” Winter from Dolphin Tale
Meet Winter from Dolphin Tale on your Florida Vacation
Visit Winter, the dolphin whose story endeared hearts when the movie was released in cinemas this fall – she lives at the Clearwater Marine Aquarium. Now 6 years old, her story is one inspiration – upon losing her tail after being snared in a crab trap, Winter survived and learned to swim, eventually receiving a a prosthetic tail. Winter’s story is one of many at the rescue and release facility – from otters to turtles, each has a unique situation that brought them to the center. Those who cannot sustain a life in the wild, call the center their home.
The fall 2011 movie, starring Ashley Judd, Harry Connick Jr. and Morgan Freeman was filmed at the Clearwater Aquarium – you can sign up for a backstage movie tour where key scene locations were filmed.
