Free The Great American Beach Party kicks off the Florida Open for free on Memorial Day Weekend
Free Memorial Day events on your Florida vacation: Great American Beach Party & Florida Open
Head down to Fort Lauderdale Beach for 12 hours of free Memorial Day celebrations from 10 am till 10 pm this Saturday, May 26th. From live music to pro beach volleyball, Las Olas Blvd. and A1A will be buzzing with activity.
The Florida Open
Ft. Lauderdale Beach Park is the first among 7 stops in the U.S. for the Jose Cuervo Pro Beach Volleyball Series. The Florida Open runs till Sunday, along with a rock wall and other beach festivities happening in the in Cuervo Village .
There are two stages with live music, from classic oldies to to popular rock ‘n’ roll songs. Orlando’s Jake and Elwood Blues Review headline the evening at 7:30 on the South Stage. Other music includes reggae tunes by Swahili from noon till 2 pm on the south stage and jazz by Noreena Downey at 2:20 to 3:40 pm on the north stage.
At Poinsettia St., families will find a beach water slide, face painting and contests from hula-hoop and Twister to a water balloon toss. From there, walk to Cortez to watch a sand sculpting competition in action.
More than 50 vintage cars will line A1A in the classic car show. From hot rods and muscle cars, to outdoor art, there are two simultaneous shows going on.
Choose a spot early at DC Alexander Park (the corner of A1A and SE 5th Street), for the 8:30 pm “American Grafitti” screening. The screen is large enough that if you find yourself in the back row, you should still get a good view.
