A Florida Vacation is the top Spring Break Destination

According to stats released by Orbitz in March 2012, Florida takes the lead on the Top 10 list of spring destinations. With Las Vegas following close behind Orlando, Florida still has four placements within the list: Orlando, Ft. Lauderdale, Ft. Myers and Tampa. These stats were calculated by Orbitz air bookings for travel during the Spring Break months from March 1 to April 22, 2012. If you’re visiting one of the popular cities that made the ranking, check out some travel suggestions below.

Florida’s Ranking

Here’s how major cites in Florida ranked in the Top 10:

  • #1 Orlando
  • #4 Ft. Lauderdale
  • #8 Ft. Myers
  • #9 Tampa

Spring Training

Enjoy America’s favorite past-time in either Orlando or Ft. Myers depending on whether you’re a RedSox or Atlanta Braves fan. The $78 million JetBlue Park has seating for 11,000 and has adapted a number of elements from Fenway Park so fans and players feel at home – a manual scoreboard and in left field, the 37-foot high Green Monster. Fans can even sit seating on top of or behind the wall, just like at home. Orlando’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex will play home to the Atlanta Braves for the team’s 2012 spring training season. Many of Major League Baseball’s most popular teams will be coming to Disney to play the Braves. See the Cardinals, the Phillies, the Yankees or the Mets at Champion Stadium.

Beach Time

Florida has tons of  unique beaches but if you’re close to Tampa, try the secluded Caladesi Island’s sandy beach – you can only reach it by boat or grab a ferry from Honeymoon Island State Park. It’s worth the effort as the island is a true natural escape – no condos on the skyline, no snack stands – only you, the sand, sun and  water.

Party Time

Spring Break is synonymous with parties for students. If you’re near Orlando for Spring Break, try the Cuban Cafe or the House of Blues in Downtown Disney if you’re looking for a good bar or the Pointe Orlando outdoor entertainment complex on International Drive (from B.B. King’s Blues Club, an improv comedy show or an IMAX movie, there are many venues in the one complex).
