New Avatar-themed land coming to the Animal Kingdom
Disney Vacation Guide: Avatar in the Animal Kingdom
According to The Walt Disney Company’s President and CEO, Robert Iger, a new land themed around the “Avatar” movie franchise will likely open in the Animal Kingdom in 2015.
This was announced during a question-and-answer session in Kansas City earlier this month at Disney’s annual shareholder meeting.
According to Mr. Iger, design work is under way. He said, “I actually attended a meeting with Jay Rasulo (Disney Co. Chief Financial Officer) the other day where we got pitched some of the creative of it.”
Marvel Entertainment coming to Disney World parks and lands
At that same meeting, Iger spoke of plans to incorporate Marvel superheroes into Disney World parks and lands. (In 2009, The Walt Disney Company acquired Marvel Entertainment Inc. for $4.3 billion.)
Heroes Work Here
Also at that shareholder meeting, Iger announced the new Heroes Work Here program. This new company-wide program will see Disney hiring, training and supporting returning veterans.
Disney has a long history of appreciation and respect for the U.S. Armed Forces and this new initiative will expand on that commitment to further honor and respect the sacrifices made by the nation’s service men and women.
Over the next three years, Disney will provide a minimum of 1,000 jobs and career opportunities to returning U.S. veterans. The Walt Disney Company will also support military families during veterans’ Transition back to civilian life as well as launching a public awareness campaign encouraging employers to hire veterans.
