Davy Jones dies in Florida at age 66
Florida Vacation Guide – Sad Celebrity News: Pop star Davy Jones dead at 66
February 29, 2012 was a very sad day in Florida. For many of us around the world, a piece of our childhood died along with the passing of Davy Jones, the iconic performer who was the “Paul McCartney” of The Monkees – the one who made all the young girls scream.
Davy Jones died at his home in Florida yesterday of a heart attack at the age of 66, leaving behind a wife and four daughters to grieve, as well as thousands of fans from one side of the world to the other.
A dashing young Davy Jones, born in Manchester England, was chosen by American television executives to play a role in the Monkees – one of the original boy bands. The group of four was put together with the intention of modeling the success of The Beatles. Jones’ fellow cast members were Peter Tork, Mike Nesmith and Mickey Dolenz. That was 1966 and it seems that he certainly wasn’t ready to stop performing.
Before Davy Jones’ sudden passing in Florida yesterday, he was scheduled to perform at Disney World this spring as part of the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival‘s Flower Power Concert Series. A pop icon of the 60s and 70s, his presence will certainly be missed at this popular Disney event.
Rest in peace, Davy Jones.
