Celebrity News: Lance Armstrong competes in the Ironman 70.3 this weekend!
Florida Vacation Guide to seeing Lance Armstrong in the Ironman 70.3
Seven-time Tour de France champion, Lance Armstrong, wearing Bib 4, will compete in the Ironman 70.3 this weekend as a member of Team LIVESTRONG.
New Venue
The Ironman competition this year, moved from Walt Disney World to Haines City. The route takes place in Lake Eva Park, beginning with a 1.2 mile fresh-water swim, then a 56-mile bike route and completing with a 13.1-mile run.
The Bike Course
The 56 mile bike course is one loop on rural roads that loops around Lake Marion, edges Lake Pierce and passes golf courses and citrus orchards within eastern Polk County. The open course shares the road with local traffic so you may see Lance speeding down one of the gently rolling hills.
Run Course
The 13.1-mile run course loops on paved roads and trails around Lake Eva. You can view runners from the the transition area at Lake Eva Park. The finish line is next to the Bandshell at Lake Eva Park.
Spotting Lance
You may have a better chance spotting Lance here than in the Tour de France, but make sure you arrive early as there will be crowds of people and traffic will be heavy. When viewing cycle racing, the cyclists move so fast that it’s a blur so if you want a chance to potentially spot Lance, stake your viewing area at the crest of one of the hills as cyclists do move a bit slower going up (although slow for a professional is still extremely fast!)
