Plans Unveiled for Disney Springs
Disney announces new expansion for 2016
Disney unveiled plans today for a major expansion where Downtown Disney will be transformed into Disney Springs. The number of stores, restaurants, entertainment and other outlets will double to over 150 venues. All of these features will be embedded into a charming waterfront area with Disney’s unique storytelling style with open-air promenade, sprawling lakefront and meandering springs.
“Disney Springs will be a timeless, vibrant place where Walt Disney World guests and local residents can relax, shop, dine and be entertained in an imaginative setting where they’ll instantly feel at home,” said Tom Staggs, chairman of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.
Disney Spring Neighbourhood Details
Inspired by Florida’s waterfront towns, Disney Springs will have four distinct outdoor neighborhoods that are connected by a lakefront and flowing spring and vibrant lakefront. Along with a new entryway and signature water tower, here are some of the highlights of the destination:
- The Town Center: this sophisticated neighborhood will blend shopping and dining along a promenade area that offers relaxing settings for guests.
- The Landing: This neighborhood dining district will have new tastes and sprawling waterfront views to choose from.
- The Marketplace: this family-friendly neighbourhood will have a variety of new features and experiences, including an over-the-water pedestrian causeway, and an even larger World of Disney store.
- The West Side: Entertainment is the focus in this neighborhood, with elevated spaces that offer key vantage points for activities and provide comforting shade at the same time.
