What To Do from January 11 – January 18, 2013

Bird walks to historic house tours are all part of the event mix this week for Southern Florida:

1. Dade Winter Bird Walk

Want to know which birds are chirping or singing softly in Florida during the winter months? Birders, pull out your binoculars and head to Dade Battlefield Historic State Park for the bird walk on the nature trails.

  • Highlight: Winter birding
  • When: Friday, January 11th, 2013. 10 am to 12 pm
  • Where: 7200 County Road 603, Bushnell, Florida 33513
  • Cost: $3/ car load (maximum of 8 people). An annual park pass can also be used.

2. 53rd Annual Historic House Tours

One of the most popular events in Key West is the rare chance to get inside some of the unique older homes during this annual tour by the Old Island Restoration Foundation. Sit down on the conch train as it takes you from one charming tropical home to another. There are additional tours being offered for February and March as well.

  • Highlight: Historical island homes
  • When: January 18-19, 2013, 4 to 8 p.m.
  • Where: The tour starts at 921 Whitehead, Key West, Florida
  • Cost: $30/person

3. Moonlight Concert

Listen to everything from traditional Irish and Scottish songs to Indian Ragas and Folk Ballads played on Medieval and Renaissance instrumentals at Barnacle Historic State Park. Bring a picnic and blanket and listen to Aodh Og O’Tuama from Cork, Ireland sing to the evening stars.

  • Where: 3485 Main Highway, Coconut Grove, Florida 33133
  • Cost: $$7/ages 10 and up; $3/ages 6-9; free/children under age 6.
