From canoeing to crabbing, there’s something fun in Florida’s outdoors this week:

1. Sunrise Canoe Tour

Paddle down the Ichetucknee River at Ichetucknee Springs State Park as the sun rises and mist lifts from the warm waters. All equipment and PFDs are provided so there’s no need to bring your own canoe or kayak. Transportation is provided back to the north end of the park – all you need to do is dress warmly and bring a flashlight for launch time. Space is limited so you must call  386-497-4690 to book a spot.

  • Highlight: Watch mist rise from the bow of your canoe.
  • When: Saturday, January 12, 2013. 6:30 a.m. till 9:30 a.m.
  • Where: 12087 S.W. U.S. 27, Fort White, Florida 32038, Florida *meet at the North Entrance, off Elim Church Road (County Road 238)
  • Cost: $5 Park entrance fee

2. Crabbing for Beginners

Catch a crab with a Florida park ranger at Faver-Dykes State Park. From necessary equipment to techniques and rules, you’ll discover the basics of crabbing on Pellicer Creek. All crabbing equipment is provided in this hands-on event. Meet at the Picnic Area Fishing Dock.

  • Cost: Regular park admission

3. Wild Edibles Workshop

Learn all about wild edibles at Dade Battlefield Historic State Park. After a potluck supper, you’ll be guided in picking wild nuts and acorns and then preparing them for recipes.

  • Highlight: Learn about wild foods
  • When: Thursday, January 17th, 2013, 6 to 9 pm
  • Where: 7200 County Road 603, Bushnell, Florida 33513, Florida
  • Cost: $3/car load (maximum 8 people)
