From hiking to kayaking, there’s something fun in Florida’s outdoors this week:

1. Guided Nature Hike

Walk through Silver River State Park with a naturalist as your guide to discover flora and fauna that call Central Florida home.  One of two guides will be accompanying you: David will share his vast knowledge of plant life, exotic invasives, and ecosystems or Mickey will impart the rich historical and cultural stories of the Silver River district. There aren’t any pets allowed on the walk due to protecting wildlife. Make sure you dress for the weather and wear sturdy walking shoes.

2. Overnight Backpacking Trip with a Park Ranger

Have you always wanted to venture into the backcountry? This unique outing takes you beyond the campground, on a group overnight hike with a park ranger in Paynes Prairie Preserve State Park. The  6.5 mile overnight hike is moderately strenuous and covers a variety of terrain from flat to slightly rolling. The first day will be a 4.5 mile hike where you’ll then set up camp and hike out for 2 miles on Sunday morning, following the north rim of the prairie basin. Along with the hike you’ll learn about the biological, cultural and historical significance of the Prairie. Make sure you reserve your spot early as this hike is limited to 20 participants. 3. Learn to Kayak

If you’ve always wanted to try kayaking, you can learn beginner skills from Adventure Times Kayaks on a land-based course at John D. MacArthur Beach State Park. You need to make a reservation at the Nature Center by calling (561) 624-6952.
