Florida Travel Guide to Earth Day Celebrations at Zoos

Party on Earth Day with diverse wildlife at one of Florida’s zoos! It’s the 6th year that aquariums and zoos all over North America that are AZA-accredited, participate in the Party for the Planet™ . From give-aways and crafts to live animal demonstrations and talks by zoo keepers, there are environmental activities for the whole family!

Miami Zoo

The party is for the animals at the Miami Zoo. Throughout the day, “animal enrichment” happens with recycled and natural materials, such as tigers receiving papier maché beehives at 10:30 or chimpanzees grabbing plastic recycled jugs filled with goodies at 1:45. The party happens from 11 am till 4 pm on April 21st and 22nd and there are eco-friendly activities for the whole family. Best of all, if you bring a cell phone, admission is free.

Tampa’s Lowry Park Zoo

On April 21st, from 9:30 am to 5 pm, conservation displays and exhibits are part of the Party along with Komodo dragon feeding, bird of prey shows and manatee talks. Animal enrichment seems to be the theme so make sure you’re at the African elephant exhibit at 10 am and the orangutang exhibit at 12:30 pm.

Naples Zoo

On April 30th, the party takes place at Caribbean Gardens with a conservation scavenger hunt, games and green arts and crafts.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Celebrating the release of Disneynature film Chimpanzee, Animal Kingdom has a myriad of activities and giveaways on April 22 9:00 a.m. till 5:00 p.m. For example, at the Conservation Station at Rafiki’s Planet Watch you can take part in activities that conservation projects are undertaking and talk to people who are working in the field worldwide, or you can find chimpanzee tracks and other clues left on the Pangani Forest Exploration Trail.
