Florida Travel Guide to historic St. Pete hotel – the Vinoy

The salmon-coloured exterior of the Renaissance Vinoy Resort & Golf Club that overlooks Tampa Bay, is not only one of St. Petersburg’s best luxury hotels, it’s also listed on the National Registry of Historic Places. It’s recent renovation was carefully done to preserve the iconic architecture, from the original vaulted ceiling to the quarry glazed tile floor.

The History

Built in 1925, the Vinoy has gone through many transformations, including a training facility for the Army Air Corps and military cooks in the 40. From various states of disrepair it was restored with the addition of a guest tower and a golf course with 18 holes. Its current renovation has added to the luxury feel even more with a comfortable lobby and new artwork.

The Renovation Lobby

The Vinoy’s lobby is like a lounge, with a library and cafe. The Mediterranean Revival architecture is enhanced with unique Chihuly pieces and a custom sculpture by Renee Dinauer that adorns the entry to the hotel. Or step onto the Veranda and relax by the patio’s firepit level for lunch or dinner.

Vacation like a Local Program

The Renaissance Vinoy created a unique complimentary program for guests that is an alternative to a concierge service. The Vacation Like a Local program gives guests recommendations for activities, dining, etc. for the local area, and the difference is that it comes directly from long-time residents that were surveyed for their best tips on everything from cheap eats and best coffee to the best galleries and local beaches.
