1. Hemingway Festival

Ernest Hemingway is one of the many notable celebrities to have been attracted to the Key West area over the years. During the 1930s the Pulitzer Prize winning author lived in Key West during the 1930s. The legacy he left behind in the area is strong enough that an annual event – a festival – is held in his honor each year. this year marks the 113th anniversary of Hemingway Days which includes everything from an arm-wrestling challenge and a look-alike contest to a deep-sea fishing tournament and literary readings.

2. Sushi and Stroll

Head to the blissful shade at the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens and beat the heat with a stroll through nature. Lose yourself in the tranquility of the peaceful, winding paths through the lush foliage. Bamboo groves, bonsai trees, koi fish – it’s all so beautiful. There are six gardens to explore on your own, or you may also opt to take the self-guided audio tour to learn more about the inspiration that was behind each different garden. Enjoy a cold drink and a bite to eat at the Cornell Café. For an additional $2 (entrance fee is $7) you can take in a hip-shaking taiko drumming performance.

3. Boca Burger Battle: A Grilling Affair

If you’e over 21, head to the first ever Boca Burger Battle where local Boca burger joints and other restaurants offer up all sorts of burger goodness alongside wine, spirits and craft beers. While there’ll be all kinds of beefy burgers to choose from, there will also be alternatives, making this burger battle more incisive than others. There will even be vegan options. Some of the Boca Raton restaurants to participate include: Biergarten Boca Raton, Big Joes Burger and Wings, Gimme a Burger, Brewzzi, Red’s Backwoods BBQ, Boardwalk Burgers and Fries, Smashburger, Brickyard Micro Brewery, Rebel House and Wave 2700. Enjoy live music by reggae band the Resolvers and shop at the green market.
