If you’re trying to keep within a budget while enjoying a Florida vacation, there are lots of free events taking place through the state that will want to look into.

1. Sherlock Holmes and the Opera Mystery

What happens when a world-famous detective has been called to a diamond theft at London’s Royal Opera House? Find out how Holmes uses disguise, skills of observation and audience participation in an original stage play based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s classic work.

2. Suncoast Offshore Grand Prix Festival, Sarasota

So much fun taking place in Sarasota from now until July 4, the day the offshore racing by million-dollar cigarette boats takes place.  Play in the golf tournament, be social at the Festival kickoff party, check out the car show and the parade of boats happening downtown. Enjoy the High Heel Hike for Autism pancake breakfast and motorcycle ride, check out the bikini contest and stick around after the annual Suncoast Super Boat Grand Prix Boat Race to see the fireworks. Click here for schedule details.

3. Panhandle Watermelon Festival, Chipley

For 56 years the Panhandle Watermelon Festival has been a tradition in Chipley. During this last full weekend in June, enjoy a free performance by March Chestnutt (and do the Watermelon Crawl!), eat watermelon and check out the car show.
