Florida Travel Guide – Free Events To Do August 3-August 10

There’s no need to spend a fortune on entertainment when you travel through Florida! There’s always a free event or two to explore. Here are three free events taking place over the next couple of days.

1. Funday and Possum Festival

Does the thought of Possum Stew make your stomach growl? Anyone up for a Possum Ice Cream Cone? It’s all about celebrating the awesome (and humble) possum this weekend in Wausau. Expect events like hog callin’, rooster crowin’, and cow lowin’ contests! There will also be a parade to watch, live music and entertainment for the kids to enjoy. Check out the possum auctions, the pageant and of course, the food!

  • Highlight: Celebrating the possum
  • When: August 4, 2012 | 6am-5pm
  • Where: Wausau, Florida 32463
  • Cost: Free

2. Broadwalk Friday Fest

Stroll Hollywood Florida’s signature 2.5-mile Broadwalk and listen to the sounds of live blues, jazz and pop. Grab something to eat at an oceanfront restaurant or cafe. Food tastes better with a tropical breeze on your skin and the sound of music floating in the air.

  • Highlight: Live music outside
  • When: August 6, 2012 | 7pm-9pm
  • Where: Hollywood Beach Theater, A1A at Johnston Street and the ocean
  • Cost: Free

3. Cedar Key Getaway Members Show

Discover the result of an artistic retreat to Cedar Keys by Brevard artists Mike McCuiston, Karen Lewis, Therese Ferguson, Cynthia Perry, Lolly Walton, Jo Lincoln, Carol Marshall and Barbara Smythers. The opening reception for the Cedar Key Getaway Members exhibition takes place tonight and admission is free. It really is amazing to see how the same subject was interpreted so differently by each of the artists.

  • Highlight: Admiring works of art
  • When: Friday August 3, 2012 | 5:30pm-8:30pm
  • Where: Art & Antiques Studio, 1419 Highland Ave., Melbourne, Florida
  • Cost: Free
