Things to do for Florida Vacation on Labor Day

Labor Day Weekend is coming this weekend and if you’re wondering what to do in Florida, here are some of the unique events happening.

1) Run 5K or 1 Mile

Lace up your running shoes and head to Alys Beach on September, 2, 2012 for the inaugural Alys Beach 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run. Benefitting the Alys Beach Foundation, the 5K course starts at the Alys Beach Amphitheatre, winds through town and a 22 acre wetland before finishing at the Amphitheatre. There’s fun for children including a splash fountain, oversized inflatable obstacle course and a one mile route is for kids under 12.

2) Sample some Beer 

If beer is your thing, try tasting 150 of them in one weekend! From August 30 to September 3 2012, Key West’s Brewfest will hold pool parties, music events, late-night parties and seminars, with all proceeds going to the Rotary Club. Along with specialty brews, there’s the Signature Event – BrewFest Tasting Festival – from  4 to 8 p.m. on Saturday where you can sample beers from around the world while relaxing by the ocean (purchase tickets for $30/person in advance. Other unique events include:

  • beer school and educational seminar with “brew guru” Jim Brady
  • kickoff party at the Smokin’ Tuna Saloon
  • a beer and cheese seminar
  • a pool party at the Southernmost Hotel
  • bingo at the Green Parrot Bar

3) Relax in Leu Gardens

If you want to escape the partying crowds and looking for a serene setting, Leu Gardens has its free admission day on Labor Day. You can explore the 50 acres in this botanical garden, breathe in the sweet wafts from the Rose Garden our tour the Leu House Museum.
