Florida News: Free Oktoberfest fun at Bok Tower Gardens on October 20, 2012
At Bok Tower Gardens, Oktoberfest is as much about plants as it is about beer. Along with their Biergarten filled with music, German food and craft beers, there’s also fun for children as well with face painting, air brush tattoos, sing alongs and a petting zoo.
Jimmy and Eckhard German provide the entertainment in authentic lederhosen costumes and German music. Along with the the traditional “Ein Prosit” and bird or chicken dance, expect some yodeling, soup spoons, Alpine bells and Horn and Singing Saw. Jazz guitarist David Smith, 60 bell Singing Tower carillon, The Porchdogs and Juggles the Clown round out the entertainment
Tom MacCubbin will speak on lawn and garden issues and over 40 vendors will have plants for sale including the following:
- tillandsia air plants
- water lilies
- tropical fruits
- olive trees
- Florida native plants
If you’re looking for authentic German food check out the Blue Palmetto Café for bratwurst, potato salad and Reuben sandwiches. There will also be concessions at the Biergarten with some German food along with hot dogs, corn dogs, veggie wraps and even Greek options with hummus and tabouleh. Beer will come in all forms, from the keg and and also seasonal beers.
