Disney Vacation Guide to an Old South hotel accommodation

One of the best places to stay if you want some good old fashioned hospitality, is Disney’s Louisiana-themed Port Orleans Resort – Riverside. Whether it’s a rustic bayou village or an elegant plantation-style mansion, you’ll feel like you’re on the upper Mississippi when you’re on the scenic Sassagoula River. After a two-month renovation to its lobby, you can now enter the 2,048-room resort where everything from the check-in and furniture to period lighting and tiles were designed to capture the essence and tranquility of the deep South.

The Details

The new period lighting fixtures and colorful rugs, dark wood furniture and wrought iron tables, depict the romance and vibrancy of the Cajun life. This renovation is on the heels of the enchanting Royal Guest Rooms that opened this spring. From headboards that glitter to your very own personal “fireworks” display, watch our video to get a sense of the experience.

Authentic Deep South

From the Tom Sawyer-like Ol’ Man Island to the Whistlin’ Dixie and romantic carriage rides to garden parties Port Orleans captures Cajun-style scenery and the authentic flavour of the South. At the Riverside Mill Food Court, you’ll see an authentic 35-foot water wheel that was reproduced to power the cotton press. At the French Quarter, Dixieland music and wrought iron grillwork capture the romance of the Big Easy.
