Disney Vacation Guide to Olympics 2012 Celebrations in Disney

Rather than sitting in your hotel room or a sports bar to watch the Opening of the Summer Olympics 2012, celebrate it in style with Disney. The Swan and Dolphin Hotel is holding a summer games event in their lobby that is open to the general public as well as hotel guests.

2012 Olympic Games

On Friday, July 27th from 6 – 9 p.m., you can watch the opening ceremonies broadcast from London displayed on large screen televisions, munch on “gold medal” cookies and snacks with a British twist, as well as meet former Olympians. There will also be fun activities for children to keep them entertained.

Athlete Autographs

Former summer games medalists will be in the lobby to sign autographs, have photos taken and talk Olympics. Meet the 1992 gymnast medalist, Wendy Bruce-Martin, recent inductee to the Broward County Sports Hall of Fame in 2011 and the USAG Gymnastics Hall of Fame in 2010. Two-time Olympic gymnast Scott Johnson, will also be in the lobby. Now retired, he continues to coach gymnastics in the Orlando area. Gold medalist, Fred Tyler, earned the medal for the 4×200 meter freestyle relay at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich, Germany. A teacher at Florida’s Lake Mary High School, he’s the former head aquatic coach at the school where he trained many state swimming and water polo champions.
