Disney Vacation Guide to the science behind the magic of the Disney Fantasy

The Disney Fantasy is just SO cool! Art that watches you while you watch it, an interactive Muppet Adventure game, Magic Portholes and the list goes on and on.

Here are some of the technological highlights of this stunning cruise ship:

Living characters

In Disney’s Oceaneer Club and Disney’s Oceaneer Lab youth areas, Disney characters come to life in the Disney Fantasy’s Oceaneer Club and the Oceaneer Lab areas. Here, kids can interact with some of their favorite characters…

Everyone’s favorite sea turtle, Crush (from “Finding Nemo”) and the mischievous little alien Stitch (from “Lilo & Stitch”) interact, chat, play and joke with children from a 103″ plasma screen in an unrehearsed, personalized conversation using voice-activated animation. Talk about sophisticated technology!

More interaction on board

Imagine stopping to admire a piece of art that stops to chat with you. The ship’s Enchanted Art “recognizes” when someone is watching it, activating a few seconds of animation. The amazing thing is, if you go back to a piece of Enchanted Art for a second time, you may see something different!

The Muppets are also on board in a fun adventure game called “The Case of the Stolen Show!”

The Magic Porthole

Disney is nothing if not an innovator and The Disney Fantasy carries on that spirit of innovation with a first in the cruise industry. In all 150 of the state’s inside staterooms there is a Magic Porthole, a virtual “window” to the world offering guests a real-time view outside the ship.

Here’s how it works!

• From the exterior of the ship, high-definition cameras feed video to each Magical Porthole. When guests look through a porthole for an outside view, there’s a chance that an animated Disney character may just pop by! It could be Peach the starfish from the Disney•Pixar film “Finding Nemo,” Dumbo, Rapunzel, Mr. Potato Head, Scuttle from “The Little Mermaid” or even Mickey!

The Magic PlayFloor

The Magic PlayFloor at the Oceaneer Club is another cruise- industry first on the Disney Fantasy. This one blends the latest in gaming technology with Disney’s famous panache for telling stories. 16 light pads on the Magic PlayFloor’s perimeter detect motion and location while triggering actions. Kids’ movement controls the action!
