The Best Attractions for Explorers in Disney’s Animal Kingdom
Disney Vacation Guide: Explorers
We all have an adventurer inside of us! Treat the explorers in your family to an African safari, an archaeological dig and a chance to watch endangered lowland gorillas in these fantastic Disney Animal Kingdom attractions for explorers – young and old!
The Boneyard
Dig through sand for Triceratops, Tyrannosaurus Rex and Woolly Mammoth replica bones. The playground includes tunnels, slides and a multi-level maze but the dig site is for budding paleontologists! For the energetic, run up the hill and tap on the “xylobone’s” fossilized bones to create music.
Tip:
Adults can rest in a shaded area near the dig site with cooling fans.
Kilimanjaro Safaris
Traverse wobbly bridges and drive over rutted dirt roads in an open-air safari vehicle to view giraffes, elephants, lions and hippos among dozens of other species. The end of the safari involves guests in part of a chase to save a young animal from poachers. (Duration: 14 minutes)
Tip:
Stay at the Animal Kingdom Lodge and get special entrance to a morning Kilimanjaro Safari
Pangani Forest Exploration Trail
Walk through tropical vegetation into an African grassland savannah to spot okapi and meerkats; observe naked mole rats in underground burrows from a glass viewing area, and watch Carmine Bee-eaters in an aviary. The highlight is watching endangered lowland gorillas up-close from several vantage points, including a suspension bridge.
Tip:
Begins near the Kilimanjaro Safaris and ends near the Harambe station of the Wildlife Express Train.
