Marvel’s “The Avengers” beats Hunger Games and Harry Potter at the box office
Disney Vacation Guide: “The Avengers” crush box office records
This weekend, “The Avengers” killed the existing records for highest grossing opening weekends by earning $200.3 million dollars.
To put that into perspective, consider that “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2″ earned $169.2 million, “The Dark Knight”, $158.4 million and “The Hunger Games”, $152.5 million.
What about “The Avengers” weekend competition?
Well, it doesn’t look like there was any competition for “The Avengers” this weekend. The second place movie in the weekend’s highest grossing films was “Think Like a Man” which brought in just over $8 million while “The Hunger Games” came in third, bringing in just over $5 million.
What does Marvel have to do with Disney?
The Walt Disney Company now owns Marvel and “The Avengers” has been marketed and distributed by Disney. Part of the promotion and marketing of the film can be seen on one of the Magic Kingdom’s monorails.
“The Avengers” monorail wrap
On March 31, one of the monorails in the Magic Kingdom was wrapped with a Marvel-ous new look.
Characters featured on the “Avengerail” include Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), The Incredible Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner). Other stars in the film are Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Stellan Skarsgård (Professor Erik Selvig) and Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury). This Avengers-themed monorail will run throughout the summer.
