Last week, the CEO and President of The Walt Disney Company, Robert A. Iger, announced the new Heroes Work Here initiative at a shareholder meeting in Kansas City. This new company-wide program will see Disney hiring, training and supporting returning veterans.
Disney has a long history of appreciation and respect for the U.S. Armed Forces and this new initiative will expand on that commitment to further honor and respect the sacrifices made by the nation’s service men and women.
Disney to provide 1000 career opportunities to U.S. veterans over 3 years
Over the next three years, Disney will provide a minimum of 1,000 jobs and career opportunities to returning U.S. veterans. The Walt Disney Company will also support military families during veterans’ Transition back to civilian life as well as launching a public awareness campaign encouraging employers to hire veterans.
Disney will also invest in several non-profit organizations proving training and support services to veterans.
Disney VoluntEARS program pitches in
Through the Disney VoluntEARS program, current employees will be collaborating with veterans’ organizations around the country on different service projects.
“As a new generation of America’s military men and women transition into civilian life, we are increasing our commitment and support for these modern day heroes,” said Mr. Iger. He added, “It’s a measure of our respect for how much they have sacrificed on our behalf, and our sincere gratitude for their extraordinary contributions to this country. The military values of honor, integrity, commitment, and courage, along with the skills and experience they’ve gained through their service, make veterans incredibly valuable employees for any company.”

The Heroes Work Here program is focusing recruitment efforts across all areas of the Walt Disney Company, including: ESPN, the Disney-ABC Television Group, Disney Consumer Products, The Walt Disney Studios, and Disney Parks and Resorts.
