Disney Fantasy Christened by Mariah Carey in New York
Disney Vacation Guide to Disney Fantasy New York Christening with Mariah Carey
The newest member of the cruise ship fleet for Disney Cruise Line, Disney Fantasy, was christened yesterday by Grammy Award winner and now official godmother Mariah Carey. After a 3,800 mile Atlantic Ocean crossing from Bremerhaven, Germany, the ocean liner stopped in the Big Apple for the ceremony before sailing to its home in Port Canaveral, Florida.
Mariah Carey & more celebrities
Carey’s pop chart smash single, “Fantasy,” is the perfect tie in for her godmother role of the Disney Fantasy. She has also performed at Disney a number of times throughout the last decade. Along with her husband Nick Cannon, who joined Minnie Mouse in breaking the bottle of champagne on the ship’s hull, a number of other celebrities boarded the ship at the Manhattan Cruise Terminal to commemorate the world’s newest cruise ship. The star-studded lineup included Jerry Seinfeld, Neil Patrick Harris, and Heather Headley.
“I christen thee Disney Fantasy. May God bless this ship and all who sail on it,” said Carey in the company of Mickey Mouse and Disney dignitaries, and then lights flowed like champagne. This was the first any Disney ship to be christened outside of Florida. In January 2011, the christening for Fantasy’s sister ship, the Disney Dream, was held in Florida with Oscar-winner godmother, Jennifer Hudson commemorating the occasion.
There are 14 decks for the 4,000 passengers that the Fantasy can hold. Similar to her sister ship, the Disney Dream, interior staterooms have “magic” portholes for ocean views. And the Aqua Duck water coaster is also on board.
Only on the Fantasy
The following state-of-the-art digital features are exclusive to the Disney Fantasy: At Animator’s Palate restaurant, Disney characters will dance with a guest’s personal sketch or drawing during the Animation Magic show. Even the Muppets join technology in a new virtual adventure game.
