A new commemorative medal
Since it’s the fifth anniversary, Disney is designing a unique medal for all finishers of the race. All we now so far is that the commemorative medal will have a tiara theme – we’ll let you know as it’s revealed in the next few months.
About 7,500 runners competed in the first Princess Marathon Weekend back in 2009, and it’s grown in popularity ever since. Last year, more than 19,000 runners were in the race and this year even more are expected. Not only does the marathon raise funds for a good cause, it also zeroes in on healthy activities and active lifestyles for both women and girls. Registration is now open so sign up if you’ve always wanted a tiara!
The weekend has a number of events for those who aren’t in shape to complete a half marathon:
- the Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse Royal Family 5K and Kids’ Races will be held on the Saturday
- Disney Fit for a Princess Expo will be held at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex
- a speaker series with running experts highlights Jeff Galloway, the runDisney training consultant
