Disney News: New course twists revealed for the commemorative marathon

For the 20th Anniversary marathon, there are a number of unique features from a post-marathon party at Downtown Disney to the spinning elements in the commemorative medal. The new route passes through the four theme parks but also winds through the Walt Disney World Speedway and the baseball stadium at ESPN. Here’s a look at the new features and where the route is heading as runners approach the finish line. Whether you’re running in the marathon or watching it, here are the course highlights:

Walt Disney World Speedway

The course starts at Epcot and then leads to the Magic Kingdom and then run through the high-banked Walt Disney World Speedway. It’s on this one-mile tri-oval track that stock cars, Indy cars and exotic supercars rev it up and whip around the track.

ESPN’s Champion Stadium

If you’re a baseball fan, the last half of the run takes runners into ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. The highlight here is that the course passes through the Atlanta Braves’ spring training home at Champion Stadium.

Mile 1 to Mile 10

Leaving from Epcot Centre Drive, the first ten miles head toward the Magic Kingdom, passing Bay Lake and Seven Seas Lagoon on the way. The highlight here is running along the Walt Disney World Speedway.

Mile 11 to Mile 20

You’ll head into Disney’s Animal Kingdom on Mile 12 and pass through the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex from Mile 17 to 20. The highlight here is running through a major-league style ball park.

Mile 20 to Mile 26

You’ll start the last stretch of the course running through Hollywood Studios before entering Epcot for the finish line.
