New Characters in Flight balloon soars 400 feet
Disney News: Lift off in the world’s largest tethered gas balloon
If you head to Downtown Disney, you’ll see a new Characters in Flight helium balloon floating above the dock. The new yellow, red and blue color scheme on the tethered balloon – Aéro30 - also features a new set of Disney characters.
The new characters on the balloon that rises above you are:
- Tinker Bell
- Buzz Lightyear
- Jasmine and Aladdin
- Peter Pan
On Characters in Flight, you can float in the tethered helium balloon 400 feet in the air for about 8 to 10 minutes for a sweeping 360-degree view of Walt Disney World. If the weather is clear, you can see up to 10 miles away. This is a family-friendly activity but children that are under 12 years have to fly with an adult. If you’re in a wheelchair, you must use the ECV (Electric Convenience Vehicle) to transfer and then get special assistance to access the gondola.
Attached to a 19 foot gondola, up to 29 guests can rise in the world’s largest tethered gas balloon. Built and operated by Aérophile, the 72 foot diameter balloon has a volume of 210,000 cubic feet, a 240 foot circumference and is 105 feet high. Weather is a big factor on how many people can fit into the gondola, and, whether the flight will even happen.
