Disney chooses Ambassadors for 2013 & 2014
Disney News: Tye Arnold and Rich Tamayo represent Disney for a two year term
For 47 years, Walt Disney World selects two Cast Members that become annual Ambassadors. It’s a tradition started by Walt himself, during Disneyland’s 10th anniversary when he was inundated with media interview, speaking engagement and appearance requests. Ror 2013, Tye Arnold and Rich Tamayo became the lucky recipients of the ambassador pin during a ceremony at Epcot. The two men will represent over 64,000 Cast Members from Jan. 1, 2013 – Dec. 31, 2014.
Thousands of Cast Members take part in a Ambassador selection process, where they are tested on their communication skills during interviews and cast and non-profit appearances. It’s a two-month selection process to choose the candidates who must possess a passion for Disney, a commitment for community and cast members and a keen understanding of Disney’s heritage.
It all started for Tye when he sent a letter from his small town in Northeast Arkansas inquiring about becoming a Cast Member. After a Disney College Program internship, he worked in various roles as a host, tour and Cast leader and then as a Dream Squad Specialist.
Queens native, Rich Tamayo, began as an event service assistant with ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex, and has worked with the Atlanta Braves during spring training, guest relations at Disney resorts and is currently part of the the Boardwalk Resort’s front office team.
The Ambassador Role
After two months of training, the new Ambassadors start their two-year term where their functions include:
- attending more than 3,500 events
- hosting Disney VoluntEAR events
