Disney News: MLB and NFL Stars in the Pro-Am Field for the PGA Tour

With 22 days to go until the PGA TOUR returns to Disney’s Palm and Magnolia Golf Courses from November 8 till the 11th, news is starting to trickle in. Boo Weekley, a Florida native, was awarded the first sponsor exemption and sports celebrities are announced for the Pro-Am field. In its 42nd year, some of the world’s top golfers will be playing at the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals Classic, along with sports celebrities. Comedian Bill Engvall will also be a part of the pro-am.

The Golfers

Book Weekley and other pros from the PGA TOUR  will be playing with sports celebrities such as:

  • James Shields and David Price, Tampa Bay Rays players
  • Joe Mauer, three-time American League batting champ and 2009 MVP
  • A.J. Pierzynski, Chicago White Sox catcher
  • Johnny Damon, former MLB all-star
  • Joe Saunders, Baltimore Oriole
  • Derrick Brooks, future NFL Hall of Famer
  • Fred McGriff, former Atlanta Braves star
  • Ryan Longwell, former Green Bay Packers kicker

Former Winners at the Classic

In 2011, Luke Donald finished with an 8-under 64 for the win. Former winners at the Disney classic have been:

  • Jack Nicklaus
  • Tiger Woods
  • Davis Love III
  • Vijay Singh
  • Payne Stewart
  • Raymond Floyd


You can watch live coverage of the classic on the Golf Channel or purchase tickets at $20/individual rounds and $30/Classic week badges. Proceeds from the tournament go toward the Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals, which includes the following Florida hospitals:

  • the Arnold Palmer Hospital for Children, Orlando
  • the Winnie Palmer Hospital for Women & Babies, Orlando
  • Shands Children’s Hospital, Gainesville.
